Where does your inspiration for art come from?
For many (including me) the outstanding beauty of the Earth inspires art in our lives.
Think of the breathtaking views from mountains, across lakes with abundant wildlife and sunsets with the clouds and sun in dazzling displays.
But also at a more subtle level in the intricate cycles that happen on Earth to sustain life. That science helps us understand and be in awe of.
I love being inspired by stories uncovered by science and technology. Photography and film under deep water and tracking herds of hyenas across the savannas are two examples that I’ve seen where technology has helped to uncover previously unseen beauty and harmony in nature. Aren’t we lucky to live in this age?!
Through understanding gained from science we have the awareness of how cleverly life has evolved and adapted to the conditions on Earth. For me this is so awe-inspiring and science and art have always been part of the same in my view.
It then makes sense to me, when we want to live OUR lives with as much success and fufilment as possible that we see both “science” and “art” as part of the same thing, not forgetting either one or getting distracted by trying to argue one is more important.
Of course the balance is different for each person!
But I believe when we want to move forward in life with joy then both aspects must be addressed.
What is the “science” that is key in our lives?ย The human understanding of how things work.
This is great because we can learn and process information about how to make life easier and smoother. E.g. how and why we should have a good diet, how to balance bills and payments, use internet banking, study to learn medicine, teaching, engineering, build ships and homes, the list goes on and on!!
This is all exciting stuff!
But if we don’t balance it with “art” in our lives we can simply exist for the situations based more at the intellectual level in the “mental body”.
We can then all to easily suffer from ailments of the mental body: stress, anxiety, depression, OCD etc as there is so much pressure and focus on the mind all the time.
We must balance the intellectual with the emotional. We must appreciate beauty in ourselves and our surroundings everyday aswell as organising and learning!
I know that we have good appreciation of art for example in our music and films we enjoy, but consider how much time each day you spend during your day thinking and organising, and how much time you spend working with things that inspire you and fill you with joy!
Both are key to happy balance in life!

What a great post about using nature and the life around us to find our own balance! Not everyone remembers that the answer(s) can be just outside our own front/back/side door(s) – thank you for the reminder and for posting to my blog earlier this week too!
You are welcome Louise! Have a lovely week ๐
As an artist I paint from within, my heart and soul, my intuition and I know this heals and inspires both myself and others. I am inspired greatly by nature. Do I have a balance- instinctively yes I do although it is not something I dwell on.Thanks for the thinking
Hi Suzie I’m glad you have a good balance and I hope your work inspires many many people to find their balance too. Sending lots of love!
What a lovely article Jennifer. As an artist, and someone who’s lucky enough to make my home in Maui, I could not agree with you more!
Thanks for your comment Marquita! What an amazing place to live, you are so blessed! Lots of love Jennyxxx
